Mark's Remarks - 2nd Quarter 2007

A Regal Design Idea

Mark S. Massie, AIFDWelcome to Mark's Remarks! We are already months into the new year; I trust your new year is turning out to be successful as well as prosperous!

With prom and homecoming just around the corner, I thought I would share a beautiful scepter/wand bouquet with you.

Start with a bundle of twigs

First off what you will need is a bundle of twigs as shown. I used 8 forsysthia branches from the bush in my front garden and made three binding points, both ends and in the middle.

TIP: For this bouquet, you will want to make sure your twigs are hollow; you will see why in a few steps.

Best if twigs are hollow

Bind the twigs with wire

Using some decorative wire, bind and bind your twigs in random generations to create a shimmering handle.

Make a wire "bird's nest"

Next using gold wire as a base, I made a very transparent bird's nest with a thick rim. Then using silver wire I covered my "bird's nest". You should make this about the size of a flapjack.

Wire ball

Next, using the silver wire, gather a handful and roll into a ball the size of a walnut.

The design evolves

Using silver headed corsage pins dipped in Oasis Floral Adhesive insert the pins into your walnut sized wire ball and then insert them into the hollow stems of the forsythia. You may want to add more pins for added glitz as shown.

Add dendrobium blooms

Remove white dendrobium blooms from the stems and glue (using Oasis Floral Adhesive) to your wire form in a cirular fashion.

Wire ball

Continue gluing blooms to your form and VOILA! a beautiful scepter/wand bouquet for Prom or Homecoming.

Introduce these to your prom girls as the newest thing on the market and make sure you let them know they will be the first. Scepter/wand bouquets can be made with a myriad of botanicals. SO HAVE FUN experimenting!

See ya next time and remember,
Keep Booming!
