Mark's Remarks - Third Quarter 2005

Mark S. Massie, AIFDHERE COMES THE BRIDE!

Next, I want to share some of the wedding stylings I have created. I hope they will inspire you - re-create them as shown or adapt them to your own unique sense of style.

Gardenia bouquet

My first bouquet features the fragrant gardenia. I used 2 dozen gardenias and 2 bunches of bear grass. Each gardenia is wired and taped, then hand-tied together in a spiral pattern and taped. It is best to tape six together and keep adding six until you have created your bouquet. Once this is finished you can add the bear grass. Tape it in and finish the handle to your liking.

Cattleya and Japhet bouquet

I wanted to have some fun with this next bouquet so I decided to experiment. First, I inverted a slant-handled bouquet holder. I then wrapped the holder with dendrobium leis pinned into place to act as the base. Next I covered the bouquet completely with Cattleya and Japhet orchids. The fuzzy mink-like filler is from my garden, something called Smoke Bush or Continus coggygria "Royal Purple".

Here's a photo of the Smoke Bush as it grows in the garden.

Anthurium bouquet

This bouquet is more traditional in its look and style. There are a dozen white Anthuriums in this bouquet. Here, I have collared the bouquet with the white Anthuriums and made a trail of Phalaenopsis through the middle, then made a sheltered cascade. This is also designed in a slant handled bouquet holder.

Elegant bouquet

Simple, sleek and elegant describes this bouquet. Four white Anthurium are used: three are layered and the fourth creates the welcoming negative space. I half-caged the white Anthuriums with bear grass and used some beautiful Ti leaves as my foliage. Again I went to my garden and clipped some enchanting clematis vine to create the movement within this charming bouquet.

Tutorial bouquet

This is a fun bouquet to create. Learn how to make it in this step by step design lesson. I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

Now that we've seen some bridal bouquets, let's not forget the groom!
