Holiday Arrangements with Uncommon Style - Part 2

Welcome back to Mark's Remarks! My name is Mark S. Massie, AIFD. You can learn more about me and view other photos of my work here.

For the second installment of my article on unusual fall and winter holiday pieces, I'm featuring ideas for holiday centerpieces. You can find the first part of my holiday design tips here.

I wish everyone's holiday season to be filled with ghouls, goblins and jack-o-lanterns, warm thoughts of family, hot apple cider, a fireplace, a Christmas tree full of presents, and not least, a star in the East to guide you to the true meaning of the holidays!

Centerpiece design

This centerpiece, shown above and in the next photo below, is very interesting. It is for the intermediate level of design and can be somewhat trying to construct, placement and insertion are very important.

In a glass dish, I created a kubari out of twigs in a circular pattern. Then massaging the anthirium stems (or you can leave them out of water for a short period of time, making them more pliable), I inserted them into the kubari. When making these insertions, make sure the stems are all cut at the same length and the insertions are equal distance from each other.

After the anthirium placement, I inserted into the kubari one anthirium leaf. After you are finished designing this piece, place some Gold (a rock sprayed with 24KGold spray paint) some Frankincense and Myrrh into the centerpiece for a charming Christmas conversation centerpiece.

Holiday design

Need a special boost for your Christmas buffet? Why not try this beautiful tropical Christmas tree?

You will need: ginger, red roses, purple cattleya's (SP), fresh bamboo foliage, Ti & Aspidistra foliage, a mosiac container, Gold Spray Paint and Wet Design foam.

Handtie some ginger and red roses and tie off. Cut stems evenly and insert into the design foam. Just below the handtie, created a circle of red roses. Below this red rose circle I inserted, following the same pattern of the roses, fresh bamboo.

Next I bowed my aspidistra leaves and inserted them around the entire design then placed the orchids on top (Always remember to keep your orchids in water tubes so they stay fresh). I sprayed Ti leaves with gold spray paint and after drying I feathered them with my fingernail to created angel wings. This should be your last insertion. glass.

I wish you well, until next year!
