Tamie's Tips - January 2001

Tamie KimuraSomething Different for Valentine's Day

If you're seeking an alternative to offering your customers the traditional "one dozen roses" for Valentine's Day, have I got a tip for you!

An orchid wreath is simple to make and very cost-effective, and no one can deny that it's an eye-catcher. Even the fussiest Valentine customer will appreciate this impressive arrangement!

Creating a Valentine's Day Orchid Wreath

Orchid Wreath Components

Here's everything you'll need to create the Orchid wreath. I'm using a 12" styrofoam wreath form to give the wreath its basic shape. Ti leaf is used to wrap the foam heart. Colored floral netting, and assorted floral tape and ribbons are combined with the Cattley and Phalaenopsis orchids to make a corsage and boutoniere.

Form wrapped with Ti leaves

Now I've wrapped the heart form with the Ti leaf until the form is fully concealed. If you are careful to wrap the leaves tightly, you only need a few staples or pins to secure the leaves. Next, make a corsage out of the Cattleya and a boutoniere from the Phalaenopsis. (If you need help with this step, here's a tip from the archives to guide you.)

Finished wreath

Here, I've strategically attached the corsage and boutoniere to the wreath. Next, I'll use a simple bow and netting for accent. The result: an elegant floral statement perfect for the Valentine's Day holiday.

Wholesale cost of the finished wreath is less than $8.00! If you place the orchids in water-pics, the wreath can last for a week or more. As a bonus, the flowers can be unpinned and worn if desired!

This wreath is perfect for door- or wall-mounting, and is sure to be the envy of all the other valentines in an office environment!
